A Vision for Rural Education
The establishment of Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College marked a historic milestone in the educational landscape of southern Tamil Nadu. Before its inception, students from the region had limited opportunities to pursue higher education without travelling to distant urban centres.
A Philanthropic Foundation
Recognising this educational gap, Late Hajee Mohamed Meera Rowther, popularly known as Hajee Karutha Rowther, generously donated land, financial resources and infrastructure to establish the institution.
A Historic Beginning in 1956
The college was inaugurated in 1956 by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri K. Kamaraj, becoming the first rural college in the erstwhile Madurai district. Since then, the institution has remained a beacon of learning for generations.
