Anti-dowry Club

The Anti-dowry Club of our college was inaugurated by our College Secretary & Correspondent on 21st December 2015. He delivered the Presidential address after the Principal welcomed the gathering.

As the mission of the Anti-dowry Club is to create awareness on the evils of dowry among students, a debate was arranged in this regard. Students of various departments who have taken Arabic as their language attended the programme. The Secretary of Jamathul Ulema Peravai, Kanchipuram district, Moulavi Hafiz Mohamed Sherif Misbahi presided as the judge.

The debate which was on identifying whether it was the men folk or the women folk who contributed the most to dowry issues, educated and entertained the audience. This was followed by an enlightening speech by Moulavi Mohamed Ismail Kashifi on the origin of dowry and its evolution as a social evil. He said that the word dowry is not found in the religious texts. Immodest women wishing to enter into a marriage contract had to pay the bridegroom a hefty sum as compensation. But unfortunately this has come to affect virtuous women as well.

Thus a thought provoking and thoroughly entertaining program that focussed on the evils of dowry came to an end.
